 Your opportunity
The Harm Reduction Officer provides support to the development and implementation of strategic and local prevention and promotion initiatives for the AODS service. The position coordinates and monitors the provision of the Primary Needle Syringe Program (NSP) for Mackay. The position also supports enhancement of the NSP and Needle Dispensing Machine network across the MHHS for improved accessibility of injecting equipment, information and services. The position also contributes to the development of strategic networks and partnerships that enhance the achievement of client and service outcomes within AODS.

The Alcohol and Other Drugs service aims to build safe and healthy communities by taking action to minimise the health, social, and economic harms caused by alcohol and other drugs. The Mackay AODS provides a specialist and comprehensive service across the continuum of alcohol and other drug assessment, intervention and community maintenance/aftercare. The service is supportive of the client and their family/carer through child and family sensitive practice. The team use a harm minimisation approach within a care management/casework model of service delivery, offer an intake service, and provide services to the Police/Court Diversion Program.
Mackay Hospital and Health Service has six hospitals, two multi-purpose health services and four community health centres that employ more than 3,300 staff. The district covers an area of approximately 90,000km2 and provides services to patients and their families in Bowen, Cannonvale, Clermont, Collinsville, Dysart, Glenden, Mackay, Middlemount, Moranbah, Proserpine and Sarina.
